Choir
The choir of the church provides musical selections to the glory of God. the choir practices weekly on Tuesday evening at the church, 7pm. The choir director is Mrs. Elanor Perry. Special music is presented on Music Sunday, Easter and Christmas. The choir takes orders for Easter and Christmas flowers paid for by the congregational members. A wonderful atrribute to the choir and church is the beautiful music provided my Mrs. Ruth Kistler at the organ for many, many years.
Sunday School/Youth Group
The Sunday School/Youth Group runs from September through May, beginning at 9:15am Sunday mornings. The purpose of the ministry is to spread God's word and love to the children, youth, and parents. In addition to weekly classes, various activities are planned throughout the year for fun as well as outreach through the World Hunger Drive. Throughout the year we have Rally Day at the beginning of the new Sunday School year, Family Fun Day, Halloween Party, Christmas Program, sledding, Easter Egg hunt, and fun crafts. All children, Nursery through 12th grade, are welcome to join us on Sunday mornings. You need not be a member of the church.
Free Family Summer Lunch
This ministry began in the summer of 2015 as an outreach to provided nourishment to children and their families within the Jim Thorpe school district. The program ran for 8 weeks during the summers of 2015 and 2016 with another summer program to be organized for 2017 as well. The goal for an ecumenical community prevent in which other churches and civic organizations assisted St. John's was achieved with so many wonderful volunteers offering time, talent, and funds to secure the success of this program. Our kitchen coordinator and head cook, Mary Horn, spent many hours in the kitchen with volunteers by her side. Provided were healthy meals, socialization, love, care, and understanding and letting folks know they were not alone. Prayers offered for many, many diners. Annual Clothing Ministry
The Church opens its doors each August and provides clothing free of charge to the community and beyond with a wide variety of men's, women's, and children's clothing, shoes, outerwear plus household items, bedding, etc. The Church collects items during the month of July, sorts and sizes all the times then has three weeks of giveaway dates commencing ALWAYS with the first consecutive Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of August. Thursdays from 9am -4pm, Fridays from 9am to 8pm, and Saturdays from 9am - 1pm. All are welcome!
